If they are unable to locate a successor in January, Newcastle United is prepared to let Callum Wilson depart the team on a free transfer the following summer, according to sources told to GIVEMESPORT.
After sustaining an injury during the preseason, the 32-year-old England international has not yet appeared for the Magpies in the 2024–2025 campaign. As a result, Eddie Howe’s team now only consists of youthful attacker William Osula and Alexander Isak.
Wilson’s current St. James’ Park contract is set to expire in June 2025, so if a new agreement isn’t reached before then, he may start speaking with overseas teams on January 1. Newcastle isn’t in a haste to let him go, though, so they could be willing to let him go.
Newcastle Aware of Saudi Interest in Wilson
Since moving to Newcastle from Bournemouth after the club’s 2020 relegation, Wilson has been a fixture in the first team. However, past season, when the Swede scored 21 Premier League goals for the Magpies, Wilson found himself in second place to Alexander Isak.
Wilson’s career has been marred by injuries, though, and at 32, it doesn’t appear likely that he will be given a new deal to extend his time with the team. GMS sources claim that there is a boardroom understanding that Wilson wouldn’t attract a large transfer price if he moved in January unless an extension was worked out, and that leaving on a free transfer would not be seen as a problem.
Although a trade never happened despite interest from Saudi teams last summer, sources suggest that Al-Shabab and Al-Qadsiah are still interested in the striker. It is simpler for Newcastle to decide not to rush a sale since Wilson, who has been called a model professional, knows he is now Isak’s backup choice.

Wilson’s weekly salary at St. James’ Park is presently approximately £110,000. The club is ready to wait until the summer to start searching for replacements because they think they can sign a better player then, when they could have European football all figured out. However, there’s a potential they might make a transfer in January if Wilson requests to go or if they are shorthanded in that part of the field due to injuries.
David and Lookman Appreciated by Newcastle
Wilson is expected to leave the team in 2025, thus GIVEMESPORT sources have learned that the team is searching the trade market for possible successors.
Jonathan David, a striker for Lille, is highly valued and, given his contract status, is a very likely solution, but they will have fierce competition from other Premier League clubs as well as teams around Europe for the Canada international.
Club executives also admire Ademola Lookman, a forward for Atalanta, and Eliesse Ben Seghir, a promising player for AS Monaco. Should Wilson go, the Magpies may try to get one of them.
