Over the weekend, Newcastle United fought their way to a 1-1 draw with Manchester City, which was undoubtedly a point gained rather than two lost.

With just two games remaining before another international break, Eddie Howe will be hoping for victories over Everton and AFC Wimbledon to boost the team’s spirits.

Injuries will probably mount up as the season goes on, particularly if the Magpies advance far in both domestic cup competitions. This might cast doubt on the choice to sign few players during the summer transfer window.

Although the Toon was expected to do well throughout the window, Howe was unable to get any of his transfer targets to the team.

Given the injuries to Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak, he is really short on depth at center forward.

The latest on Alexander Isak’s injury

The forward injured his toe in the team’s triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers a few weeks ago, but he needed an injection to get over the discomfort during last weekend’s Premier League loss to Fulham.

Isak played the entire ninety minutes of that match, but he was unable to record a point. He also only took 26 touches and made no shots on goal.

In Howe’s starting lineup, Anthony Gordon filled in for him as the primary center-forward during the weekend matchup versus City.

In order to get some playing time against AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday night, the Swede would have probably made way for a periphery player, but it now appears like he could miss the Everton match as well.

Alexander Isak’s statistics this season

Before the Newcastle game against City, the striker participated in all six of Newcastle’s games this season, recording one assist and one goal. These goal contributions occurred in the Premier League, against Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

During the summer transfer window, Howe was keeping an eye on a few strikers to provide his club some much-needed depth. How he will lament missing out on them now, considering his situation.

Jarrod Bowen was one name, and Newcastle was quite interested in the West Ham United player at the moment.
