NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo claimed on Tuesday that Davante Adams, a top wide receiver with the Las Vegas Raiders, told the franchise he would rather be traded away.
The study also stated that while nothing is imminent, things may get worse.
In his three games this season, the 31-year-old has 18 receptions for 209 yards and one score. His greatest performance came in a thrilling victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2, when he caught nine passes for 110 yards and a touchdown.
However, in his first full season as coach, Antonio Pierce’s team has struggled, and Adams probably wants to play for a contender. Gardner Minshew starts at center.
Which teams ought to be monitored for the wideout, then? I want to focus on five in particular:
New York Jets
Everything seems a bit too obvious. Aaron Rodgers and Adams may be reunited after wreaking havoc together with the Green Bay Packers. They could try to duplicate that performance in the Jets’ green, as New York needs to generate more offensive output.
The top receiver in New York is Allen Lazard, while Garrett Wilson is also a factor. Mike Williams was just acquired, but in his first four games, he has only caught eight passes for 120 yards and no touchdowns.
Adams, who is 2-2, may be the addition the Jets need to make a difference in a close AFC.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys, a 2-2 squad as well, have performed rather poorly on both ends of the ball, and their schedule does not get much better. With the exception of CeeDee Lamb, there isn’t much top output around Dak Prescott, the most expensive quarterback in the NFL.
While Brandin Cooks has been sluggish to start, with only nine receptions for 91 yards and a score through four games, Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott are having trouble in the run game.
Although it’s arguable that Dallas might benefit from more substantial defensive reinforcements, Adams seems like the kind of guy Jerry Jones would be willing to chase.
Buffalo Bills
With Josh Allen’s star power guiding the way, the Bills may be 3-1, but their shortcomings were made clear in their most recent Week 4 blowout defeat to the Ravens.
While Buffalo did not choose to replace Stefon Diggs with an outstanding wide receiver who might play well with Allen right now, Adams has the experience that could help the AFC team break through the packed deadlock.
The Bills should target either a wideout of Adams’ caliber or maybe more secondary assistance if they have room for a big move.
Kansas City Chiefs
Any non-supporter of Kansas City would not want to witness this. But with Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown both dealing with protracted injuries, the Chiefs are severely lacking in offensive skill players.
Kansas City has demonstrated that it can survive without great alternatives to surround quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but if it doesn’t add support, that may be put to the test in the final run.
The logical question to ask is: Would the Raiders want to strengthen their opponents in their division? No should be the response, but in the NFL, you never say never.
Pittsburgh Steelers
With Justin Fields taking over at quarterback, Pittsburgh has gotten off to a solid 3-1 start. However, even with Russell Wilson in the mix, the offensive play is unsustainable.
The majority of targets are going to George Pickens, but Calvin Austin III is currently WR2 with seven catches for 125 yards and a score.
The speculations about Brandon Aiyuk throughout the summer revealed the Steelers’ desire to acquire additional receiving skill, so this might be their chance to make some decisions as well.
