Newcastle United academy target Chido Obi-Martin is on the verge of officially joining Manchester United.

After his contract expired in the summer, the 16-year-old departed Arsenal and was sought by several teams, including Newcastle, before agreeing to personal terms with Manchester United.

But since August, the transfer has been put on hold while Obi-Martin and the Red Devils await Premier League approval. However, Sky Sports claims that the deal has been approved.

When Obi-Martin scored ten goals for Arsenal’s under-16 team in a 14-3 victory over Liverpool in November of last year, the news was publicized. He played with the young squad in 2023–24, making 24 appearances and scoring 32 goals. He also received first team training.

The player turned down a new contract from the Gunners that would have kept him on scholarship until he was 17 in favor of looking into other options.

Obi-Martin said goodbye to Arsenal on social media, writing: “I want to thank everyone at Arsenal for the last four years, from the bottom of my heart.

“My experiences and personal development have been absolutely priceless. With particular gratitude to the players, staff, and coaches of Hale End.

“The experiences gained will live on forever. I want to thank you all again for this adventure and wish you all the best of luck in the future.

He was seen at Old Trafford for Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, although there has been no formal announcement of his move to Manchester United. Last week, he was also seen with Eric Cantona, a legend of the Red Devils.
