One hotly debated topic among Newcastle United supporters is the possible renovation of St James’ Park or the possibility of moving to a new stadium.
Many months ago, CEO Darren Eales declared that the feasibility study for the reconstruction of St. James’ will soon be published. Sadly, though, nothing has happened since then—until today.

Toon executives have reportedly been informed that “the cost of rebuilding St. James’ Park could be as much as £1 billion as final decision on stadium plan edges closer,” according to an exclusive from Luke Edwards of The Telegraph. The story continues by emphasizing that “progress has been made on whether to rebuild or move, but there is still work to be done.”

We now seem to be getting closer to a final settlement on a matter that will be as contentious as it may be transformational, notwithstanding the support for this sensitive topic. One aspect of managing a football team in the PSR era that is exempt from the regulations is club infrastructure, which may be offset in club finances. Supporters have frequently stated that our owners have to attempt to take advantage of this to boost income.

The board needs to approach this delicately and thoughtfully since many of the supporters have strong emotional connections to St. James’ Park that span several generations. Spurs have led the way in demonstrating the positive financial impact that a brand-new, mega stadium can have on a team by renovating White Hart Lane.

We all know how hard it will be to satisfy everyone, but maybe the club can find a solution that works for virtually everyone. The Saudi PIF must make a very important choice, so stay tuned.
