Jhon Duran, the striker for Aston Villa, put a stop to rumors of leaving the team in 2025 by agreeing to a new six-year contract.
After being strongly linked to a summer transfer to West Ham, the 20-year-old has now committed to a contract that would keep him at Villa Park through 2030.
Duran, who cost £18 million to join Villa from MLS side Chicago Fire in January 2023, has been a standout substitute for the team this season, scoring four goals in the league off the bench and setting up a thrilling comeback goal in the Champions League victory over Bayern Munich last week. Duran has also scored in his one start of the season, a 2-1 Carabao Cup victory at League One Wycombe Wanderers.
On Sunday, Duran entered the game as a substitute (sarcastic shock horror), but he was unable to produce a winning play for his team (true shock horror).
Head coach Unai Emery expressed his happiness to be in the top five going into the second international break of the season following the goalless draw.
“I’m really pleased with the month we had,” he remarked.
“We didn’t control the game like we were practicing today’s first half.” The players’ response in the second half was superior to that of the first, as we made some changes to their locations on the field.
“We exercised better control, evaded their transition, and stopped several of their attacks before they could reach our defenses. They missed a great opportunity to score in the second half, but overall, I believe we played better in the second half.
“We are among the top five in the table, and our team is Manchester United.” We are content there, but in order to achieve our league goal, we must be really demanding and keep improving as a squad.
The Premier League matchup between Villa and Fulham is set for October 19.
“It’s a nice moment to rest,” Emery continued. We’re going to focus on getting some players back this week.
“We will need players. Today we were more or less with some players out and we needed fresh players with good legs in the second half to help get our objective in this match.
“The players were really focusing on this match and gave their best. I’m happy because we are feeling strong here with our supporters and keeping a good position in the league and Champions League targeting our objective. We are going to try to get there.”
