When the international break concludes on October 19, West Ham United takes on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
For several reasons, West Ham will find great significance in their Premier League matchup with Tottenham.
First of all, Julen Lopetegui is well aware of how much the supporters would be expecting from the players in this London derby.
Secondly, despite Saturday’s 4-1 victory against Ipswich Town, the Spaniard is still under a lot of strain at West Ham.
With just eight points from our first seven games, the Hammers are now positioned 12th in the standings.
With a terrifying schedule of games ahead of them, Lopetegui and his team are facing an even more difficult situation.
That terrible streak begins away at Tottenham in 11 days, and Spurs have received a significant boost ahead of the match.
Major triple Tottenham boost is bad news for West Ham
For the match against the Hammers, Ange Postecoglou will be hoping to have a few of his star players return from injuries.
And it seems like that’s exactly what will happen.
Son Heung-Min, Richarlison, and Wilson Odobert are all expected to make a comeback on October 19, the day we face Spurs, according to a Premier Injuries report.
Tottenham will benefit much from having those three players back since they are crucial to the team.
That will be bad news for the Hammers, though, as well.
To be fair, we do have a respectable away record against Spurs.
In the nine road games we’ve played against them since our Carabao Cup matchup with them in October 2017, West Ham has won three and drew two.
It will be difficult for West Ham to defeat Tottenham on own turf this time around.
Spurs will be greatly helped by having three of their best attacking players back available for selection. Let’s hope Lopetegui gets his team motivated for this match.
