Legendary Newcastle United player Alan Shearer was unimpressed with England’s performance on Thursday.

In the Nations League, Lee Carsley’s team gave a very unsettling performance as the Three Lions fell 3-1 against Greece.

Though he was far from his peak, Anthony Gordon was an England attacking left-wing player. As part of an extremely dysfunctional assault, Gordon was acknowledged by Alan Shearer as having “had a poor game” at Wembley.

The 23-year-old continued to play for Carsley’s squad from the previous international break in spite of several changes made by the acting England boss.

Marc Guehi not involved in England defeat

Carsley made adjustments to his starting lineup, starting with Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, and Phil Foden.

Almost signing with Newcastle United in the summer, Marc Guehi has established himself as an England regular and is the finest player for the Three Lions at Euro 2024.

In September, he participated in two more Nations League games; however, on Thursday night, he did not play as a replacement against Greece. Levi Colwill teamed with John Stones at centre back instead.

It turned out to be a poor choice, as England gave up several opportunities to a Greece team that deserved to win with far greater ease.

Alan Shearer’s suggests Newcastle transfer speculation has impacted Marc Guehi

At a time when Guehi is not performing well for the club, Carsley has decided to give someone else a shot at centre back.

The 24-year-old has had a difficult start to the Crystal Palace season, and Alan Shearer has hypothesised on The Rest Is Football podcast that his unsuccessful attempt to sign with Newcastle United may be negatively affecting his mental health.

“The only issue is that he hasn’t had a great start to the season, isn’t that right?” He stated.

“He hasn’t had a great start to the season with Palace, whether or not the transfer rumours have affected him mentally.”

Gary Lineker responded, saying, “Palace have struggled a little bit.” He had been said to be joining Newcastle United, your mob.

Alan Shearer wanted Newcastle United to sign Marc Guehi in the summer

There is no doubt about Newcastle’s summertime interest in Guehi. Despite their best efforts, the Magpies were unable to come to an agreement with Crystal Palace manager Steve Parish to sign the defender.

Towards the conclusion of the summer, there were times when it seemed like a deal might close and enthusiasm over Guehi perhaps relocating to St. James’ Park was high.

Alan Shearer expressed his enthusiasm and projected Newcastle to finish in the top four if the Guehi transfer went through.

Unfortunately, it didn’t. Paul Mitchell left when Guehi’s asking price was increased to £75 million by Crystal Palace.

Newcastle could make fresh Guehi move in January

Although Newcastle was furious about it, the transfer drama may not be finished.

It has been suggested that Newcastle, led by Paul Mitchell and Eddie Howe, may launch a new bid for Guehi in the first part of 2025. Their preparations centre around the January transfer window.

Given that Guehi, an England international, has expressed no interest in signing a new deal at Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace is prepared to lose him in 2025. They must either renew his contract or pay him in cash next year since his present agreement expires in 2026.

It appears that the latter is more likely, and Guehi’s play for Crystal Palace may also help Newcastle’s cause by preventing the Eagles from commanding as much a fee as they did in the summer.
