Orel Mangala joined Everton during the summer transfer window and has since had several opportunities, including being handed a starting spot while on international duty.
During the summer transfer window, Orel Mangala left Lyon to sign a season-long loan with Everton.
The midfielder has already been called upon to start a number of Premier League games, with Sean Dyche clearly pleased with what he’s seen from the Belgian international. However, Mangala didn’t play too well against Southampton, which led to us calling for him to be dropped. Regardless, the Belgian national side have seen something they like in the midfielder and opted to start him against fellow Premier League player Sandro Tonali.
How the Belgian media reacted to Orel Mangala’s display vs Italy
In a game when he occasionally seemed like a passenger and failed to truly get a grip of the ball, Orel Mangala played 68 minutes before being replaced.
The midfielder wasn’t well received by the Belgian media, who thought that his true improvement came when the Italians were down to 10 men.
This is what the Belgian publication GVA thought of his performance.
5/10 – “In the first half, we were unable to control the Italian midfield at all. entered the game only when the Italians were down a man.
Orel Mangala’s display in numbers against Italy
Orel Mangala has a somewhat typical looking stat sheet.
In addition to having 47 touches and a 97% passing accuracy, the Belgian also lost three of his five duels, gave up possession twice, made one tackle, and made one clearing.
Although it didn’t seem to be the best performance, it was definitely nothing to write home about.
He certainly has to step it up if he wants to maintain a starting position at Goodison Park, as inconsistent play at Everton and now with the Belgian national team seems to be eating into his game at times.
