Tottenham Hotspur’s recruitment strategy has undergone significant changes under the leadership of manager Ange Postecoglou and technical director Johan Lange. The club has shifted its focus towards acquiring young talents with high potential, as evidenced by their recent signings.
One such acquisition is Croatian defensive prodigy Luka Vušković. Spurs secured his services in a £12 million deal with Hajduk Split during the summer of 2023. The 17-year-old is currently honing his skills on loan at Belgian club Westerlo, where his impressive performances have caught the eye of many, including John Wenham, owner of the Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose.
Speaking to Tottenham News, Wenham expressed his admiration for Vušković’s adaptability and impact:
“It’s remarkable how he seamlessly integrates into different clubs and countries. Everywhere he goes, he becomes the standout player – an extraordinary feat for a 17-year-old. He’s already netted four league goals for Westerlo, demonstrating his aerial prowess by scoring powerful headers and outmuscling much older opponents. It’s truly incredible.”
Wenham also raised Tottenham’s recruitment team for their foresight in securing Vušković on a contract until 2030. The young defender has already gained valuable experience in the top flights of Croatia, Belgium, and Poland, suggesting he may adapt well to the Premier League when he joins Tottenham after turning 18.
Despite primarily being a center-back, Vušković has shown his versatility by contributing four goals and an assist in just 10 appearances for Westerlo. His aerial ability and physical presence have been particularly noteworthy, especially considering his young age.
As Tottenham prepares to welcome Vušković in the summer of 2025, there’s growing anticipation about his potential impact on the first team. While it remains to be seen how quickly he’ll be integrated, his rapid development and adaptability suggest he could become a key player for Spurs in the years to come.
