After almost three years in command, Amanda Staveley departed Newcastle United this summer, but it’s safe to say that neither she nor the fans have forgotten the team.
Staveley was a well-known face and the driving force behind the Saudi majority ownership of the football team, which was finalised in October 2021, together with her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi.
Prior to her departure in a summertime hierarchy reorganisation that also saw her business, PCP Capital Partners, relinquish its remaining almost 6% interest in Newcastle, Staveley served as a director at St. James’ Park.
Roger Thornton took her position on the Magpies board this week. South Shields native Thornton recently joined the club’s board of directors and has a tight relationship with Jamie Reuben, the Magpies’ co-owner. In the past, he has been instrumental in the revitalisation of Newcastle’s downtown and has assisted Reuben with real estate issues at Newcastle Racecourse.
His family was a major figure in the ground renovations at St. James’ Park for many years, and he assisted in the relaunch of the Newcastle United Development Association in the middle of the 1960s.
In the perspective of the supporters, who still have a tremendous soft spot for the financier, Staveley is difficult to replace. And it seems that even after leaving, she still has affection for the Toon, despite the fact that she is frequently connected to a bid to acquire Tottenham Hotspur, a rival team in the Premier League. Staveley shared a video of her dog Milo on Instagram. Milo was sitting on a Newcastle United blanket and was wearing a brand-new Barbour jumper.
Milo is enjoying his @barbour sweatshirt and @nufc blanket keeping him toasty this winter ‘, the caption said.
And in response to the adorable message, people showered Staveley with love.
“Is this a new hint at a sponsor š¤?” asked andyjsmith1981. Milo seems adorable.
