Another NRL club has reportedly followed the Gold Coast Titans in dropping out of the race to sign Ben Hunt, who has been given permission by the St George Illawarra Dragons to explore other options.
Although Hunt has slowed down in terms of leg speed, he still has a sharp mind, quick reactions, and strong decision-making skills. The halfback, under contract with the Dragons until the end of 2025, is likely to have played his final game with the team, with reports indicating he’s exploring other opportunities before November 1.
Despite The Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf confirming their ongoing interest in Hunt, the North Queensland Cowboys have become the latest club to step out of the competition for his signature. Woolf clarified that, while no discussions had yet taken place, they remain open to conversations with Hunt, who is currently playing for Australia.
Additionally, the Canterbury Bulldogs are reportedly eyeing Hunt, who is valued at $950,000 per season. While the Dragons haven’t confirmed whether he will be released before next season, sources suggest it’s highly likely Hunt has already played his last game for the club, especially after being told he won’t receive a contract extension.
