Despite an earlier-than-expected end to their 2024 season, the Philadelphia Phillies are looking ahead, particularly at starting pitcher Ranger Suarez. Suarez, who enters his final year of arbitration in 2025, had a solid season, even earning his first All-Star Game selection. Phillies President of Baseball Operations, Dave Dombrowski, was cautious but optimistic in discussing Suarez’s future with the team. While Suarez’s performance dipped in the latter half of the season, he remains a crucial part of the Phillies’ rotation, and Dombrowski is open to discussing a contract extension this offseason.
Suarez earned $5.05 million in 2024, but with a projected salary increase of 123%, he’s set to make $11.3 million in 2025. His performance split the season in two — he dominated early on with a 1.75 ERA and a 10-1 record through May but struggled in the final months due to injuries. Despite the challenges, Suarez has been a strong postseason presence for the Phillies, with a career 1.43 ERA in 37.2 playoff innings.
If the Phillies don’t sign him to an extension this winter, Suarez could be in line for a sizable deal after 2025, potentially worth between $70 million and $100 million, depending on his 2025 performance.
