The Las Vegas Raiders signed quarterback Desmond Ridder from the Arizona Cardinals practice squad after losing starting quarterback Aidan O’Connell to a fractured thumb. A week after being selected as the Raiders starter, O’Connell sustained an injury. Ridder joined the quarterback room in Las Vegas when Gardner Minshew, who had been benched, returned to the position under centre.

Reporters questioned the newest Raiders quarterback on Wednesday about how he keeps wanting to start in the NFL. Three months ago, I was cut. Ridder clarified via The 33rd Team on X, “That ought to be sufficient opportunity and motivation to keep me going at any time.”

“You know, back home I got the call and everything,” he added, his voice almost bursting with emotion. “Where are you going, Daddy?” my daughter said. “I have to go to Vegas,” I think. I would do anything for them, though. For my family, I would stop at nothing. This is just another chance for me to go out and show them, myself, and everyone else that I am capable of doing this.

In a follow-up inquiry, Ridder said, “Yeah for sure,” when asked if he had a grudge or something to prove to the other players in the league. It’s to me, not even to the other players in the league. I am aware of my capabilities and my potential. According to The 33rd Team, “I just have to go do it now.”

Former Falcon Desmond Ridder is making the most of a chance with the Raiders

The Atlanta Falcons selected Ridder in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. During his first two seasons in the league, he started 17 games for the Falcons. However, Ridder was sold to the Cardinals for wide receiver Rondale Moore after Atlanta chose to sign Kirk Cousins, a former Minnesota Vikings veteran.

It was anticipated that Ridder would be selected to be Arizona’s backup quarterback behind starter Kyler Murray. But after Clayton Tune was selected as the team’s understudy, he was cut by the Cardinals. Ridder joined the Cardinals practice squad shortly after his release.

The Raiders should give the former Cincinnati great a chance to start. Because Minshew turned the ball over too frequently, head coach Antonio Pierce had already benched him. However, Minshew passed for 154 scoreless yards with three interceptions after O’Connell was pushed out of the team’s Week 7 game against the Los Angeles Rams. He fumbled as well. Given that the Raiders only lost by a score of 20–15, Pierce must have been furious about the four turnover day.

O’Connell had to be placed on the injured reserve by the Raiders. Due to a broken thumb he suffered against the Rams, the organisation anticipates him missing four to six weeks.

In Week 8, the 6-0 Kansas City Chiefs play the 2-5 Raiders. In the AFC West, Las Vegas is in last place. The team may finally offer Ridder a chance to step in while O’Connell is away if Pierce is really done with Minshew.
