The winning mentality and team maturity that Aston Villa has instilled in the team are the main reasons they are succeeding in Europe this season.
According to Rafa Benitez, via Gazzetta dello Sport, Aston Villa’s Champions League performance this season has left him and the rest of us quite impressed.
This week, Unai Emery’s team defeated Bologna 2-0 to maintain their strong start to the season. With victories over Young Boys and Bayern Munich, they already have nine points in the Champions League this season.
After keeping clean sheets in all three of their games thus far, they are tied with Liverpool for the top spot in the new Champions League table but have a stronger goal differential.
With Aston Villa presently sitting fourth in the Premier League and four points from first, it’s a continuation of the excellent work Emery has been doing at Villa Park.
Unquestionably, Aston Villa is a formidable rival, especially in Europe, and Emery’s familiarity with the continent helps him lead them expertly.
Benitez has expressed his admiration and outlined the main factors contributing to their success.
“Those who have been able to strike, build a balance, and cover themselves with speed and intelligence more than anyone else,” he remarked.
“A remarkable level of team maturity and a winning philosophy.” Villa and Liverpool are not at full points by accident; they both earned it against Bologna, and they didn’t go overboard in Leipzig, but they did force their flamboyant personalities.
