Elias Charalambous, the manager of FCSB, experienced a terrible sense of déjà vu as Hamza Igamane opened his Rangers account to add the cherry on top of that Europa League cake.

His FCSB team was caught in possession inside their own half once more.

Similar to Tom Lawrence’s first goal and the first of two goals scored by Vaclav Cerny, the Romanian visitors unintentionally gave Rangers the advantage with yet another poor pass that was only now starting to pay off.

Igamane had shot into the bottom corner and across the goal a few seconds later.

Rangers’ fourth goal of the evening gave them their biggest European victory since Hapoel Tel Aviv’s 2007 thumping defeat in front of a boisterous Ibrox.

The thing that frustrated Charalambous was how FCSB made things so simple for their hosts. Rangers were gifted three nearly similar goals that evening due to a perplexing failure to learn from past mistakes.

FCSB boss accepts Rangers high pressing made the difference

During his press conference after the game, Charalambous groaned, “We knew from the beginning that we would face a very good team.” When we had the ball, we were dangerous.

After researching Rangers, we discovered that they are a team that tries to push and reclaim the ball when they lose it high [up the pitch].

Charalambous moaned during his post-match press conference, “We knew from the beginning that we would face a very good team.” We were dangerous when we had the ball.

Rangers are a club that attempts to push and recover the ball when they lose it high [up the pitch], according to our analysis on the team.

James Tavernier first played the ball into midfield for Mohamed Diomande to flick around the corner after a pass from Jack Butland.

Cerny even managed to sit down a defender before putting his reliable left boot into the far corner as he breezed in between an FCSB backline that was suicidally high.

Vaclav Cerny, a Wolfsburg loanee, is now playing Rangers blue with true “top class” talent after a sluggish start.

Connor Barron and Nico Raskin set the tone in Europa League win

“We had a dark night,” Charalambous continues. We were aware that our opponent was formidable. You can’t make mistakes so easily at this level. It costs you money. I stated prior to the game that we needed to perform at our highest level in order to defeat Rangers, but we failed to do so.

“You get upset when you lose the match. Despite our poor performance today, we must keep in mind what these guys have accomplished thus far.

“We also displeased the fans who attended the game.”

At full-time, Philippe Clement had nothing but praise for the Rangers combo of Nico Raskin and Connor Barron.

Rangers’ all-action midfield duo set the tone if their toughness, aggression, and high-pressing strategies served as the foundation for a decisive victory at home. Together, Raskin and Barron recorded 15 tackles that evening.

Igamane’s late finish was, fittingly, set up by the excellent Barron, who was imitating his Rangers predecessor Ryan Jack.

After a sloppy touch, the former Aberdeen teenager charged down an FCBS midfielder and flicked the ball into the Moroccan’s path, leaving Igamane content to handle the rest by himself.
