The Mirror claims that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has “refused” Everton’s attempts to sign him to a new contract.
On October 26, the striker wants to leave his options open as his present contract nears the end of its last year, according to a report by David Anderson on the paper’s website.
To prevent losing the 27-year-old for nothing in the summer, Sean Dyche provided an update on the matter the same day, stating that there are no plans to permit a transfer exit for him in January.
We’ve never been pushed that far, and that’s still the case now,” the manager stated. “To be handing players away at any cost because you need some money
“I don’t see anything other than him staying here until the end of his contract and hopefully beyond, but we can still make decisions on situations.”
Calvert-Lewin has not yet committed to the club despite Dan Friedkin’s takeover proceeding, and Dyche has defended that choice by stating: “Perhaps it’s his agent, saying wait and see.” I’m not sure, and wouldn’t it be reasonable?
Sean Dyche rules out January Everton sale
The ex-England international may be waiting for confirmation of the takeover before committing, rather than necessarily searching for better offers, since the manager is so composed about the situation.
In any case, even if he intends to stay after Friedkin’s deal is finalized, the door is still open to an offer he can’t turn down from somewhere else until he has formally signed up.
Given how calm the management is about the situation, the former England international might be waiting for confirmation of the takeover before committing rather than necessarily looking for stronger offers.
In any event, he can’t turn down an offer from anywhere else until he has properly signed up, even if he plans to stay until Friedkin’s deal is finalized.
Although it hasn’t resulted in success yet, theoretically only international teams should be able to look at him during the January transfer window. Juventus is intrigued because of his contract status [Corriere dello Sport, October 13], and Besiktas is joining the fray [Fotomac, October 24].
Beto has also been a target for the Old Lady, but Everton would undoubtedly reconsider any plans to let him go in the winter transfer window after the Guinea Bissau international tied the score against Fulham in the 94th minute on October 26 [Graeme Bailey, 16 October].
Calvert-Lewin has showed interest in recent months from teams like Chelsea, Newcastle [GiveMeSport, 15 October], Manchester United, and West Ham [Liverpool Echo, 14 August], so if he does end up being available for nothing at the conclusion of the season, he will undoubtedly have alternatives.
When Armando Broja, the loanee, is eventually unveiled after his loan from Stamford Bridge at the transfer deadline, he may need to make a name for himself right away if that is the plan.
