Former Warrington Wolves player Larry Flood has passed away at the age of 73. Born Laurence Andrew Flood on April 3, 1951, he debuted for Warrington, nicknamed “The Wire,” on September 19, 1976. In this match, under coach Alex Murphy, Warrington fielded six debutants, including Flood, to rest key players for a crucial upcoming Lancashire Cup semi-final. In a surprising 21-14 victory over Rochdale Hornets, Flood played in the centre and earned Heritage Number 777 for his single appearance with the club.
Before joining Warrington, Flood played with Latchford Albion and represented Warrington and Lancashire. He later joined Thames Board Mills RLFC, a now-defunct team. His funeral was held in Weymouth on October 24, with condolences from Warrington Wolves and the Warrington Players’ Association going out to his family and friends.
