Despite committing to Florida back in January, 2025 defensive lineman Jalen Wiggins is still attracting attention from major college programs, including Notre Dame.
While he has largely ignored other offers, Wiggins admits that Notre Dame stands out. “My interest has been pretty high,” the 6-foot-5, 250-pound prospect shared. “I’ve been in regular contact with Coach (Marcus) Freeman, Coach (Al) Washington, and most of the defensive staff.”
The message from the Notre Dame coaches is clear. “They emphasize the importance of both education and competing at a high level in football,” Wiggins explained. He recognizes the unique value of a Notre Dame offer, highlighting the connections it can provide.
Wiggins has been impressed by the Notre Dame staff. “They’re really good people,” he noted. He looks forward to meeting Coach Freeman in person during his upcoming visit to Notre Dame for the game against Florida State next week.
“I’m eager to observe how the players and coaching staff handle different situations, both during the game and off the field,” Wiggins said, indicating that he plans to take mental notes during the visit.
Although Florida State is also showing interest, Wiggins remains committed to Florida. “I’ve been there long enough to build relationships with the players and coaching staff, and I appreciate how they teach their players to be men, not just athletes,” he said.
He remains focused on the program and tries to block out speculation regarding head coach Billy Napier’s job security. “I look at what I know and see from the coaches and from Coach Napier himself,” he added.
When it comes time to make his final decision, Wiggins will weigh two main factors: education and high-level football. “Notre Dame has high expectations for its football program, but the education aspect is also crucial, and earning a degree there would be exceptional.”
