Everton will try to extend their Premier League unbeaten streak this weekend when they face struggling Southampton.
After securing a late draw against Fulham at Goodison Park, the Toffees may believe they got away with it.
Sean Dyche’s decision to bring on Beto from the bench proved vital for Everton, as the striker scored in stoppage time.
Despite his struggles to secure a berth in Everton’s starting XI, some believe Beto still has a lot to offer the team.
However, Everton are still battling with some injury difficulties ahead of their game against Southampton, who are at the bottom of the table with only one point.
However, there is hope that certain players may return from injury this weekend, with Michael Ball eager to see one specific player in action.
Everton urged to start Jarrad Branthwaite against Southampton
According to the Liverpool Echo, veteran Everton defender Michael Ball has asked Dyche to reinstate Jarrad Branthwaite in the starting XI.
“I would’ve started Branthwaite at Fulham. “I certainly would at Southampton,” he stated.
“Branthwaite would not cure all of the problems; the middle should be examined regardless of what happens behind it. However, his pace and athleticism allow Everton’s defence to advance further up the pitch. Knowing he can come back and heal allows the squad to move forward and possibly close some of the gaps.
“Branthwaite’s homecoming would also have psychological consequences. It would be encouraging for his colleagues to know that such a vital player had returned. The opposition would be hurt to know Everton has one of the greatest young defenders in the league to bolster their backline.”
The center defender did come off the bench over the weekend, replacing Dwight McNeil in a cameo appearance.
Despite just joining for Everton for £1 million, according to the Daily Mail, it has become clear how essential the 22-year-old has become on Merseyside.
Jarrad Branthwaite injury update at Everton
Although Branthwaite was available against Fulham last weekend, the Englishman was clearly not ready to make an immediate return to the starting lineup.
However, during Thursday’s press conference at Finch Farm, Dyche did not mention the 22-year-old while discussing the current injury.
This suggests Branthwaite is ready for selection against the Saints this weekend, as Michael Keane has held down the fort alongside James Tarkowski.
Despite having the lowest possession percentage in the Premier League, Everton have recently stayed quite solid at the back.
So the Everton boss faces an intriguing decision ahead of the weekend.
