After stepping away from baseball for a season, former Chicago Cubs utility player Trey Mancini is eyeing a comeback in 2025. Mancini, who struggled to secure a spot with the Miami Marlins’ 2024 aw Opening Day roster, spent the year at home with family but isn’t ready to hang up his cleats. The 34-year-old slugger recently shared his plans to return with The Baltimore Banner, expressing renewed motivation and a desire to end his career on a stronger note.

 

Mancini’s journey has had its highs and lows. Signed by the Cubs in 2023 after helping the Houston Astros win the 2022 World Series, he initially struggled with Chicago, hitting .234 with four home runs and 28 RBI in 79 games. After his release, he had a brief stint with the Cincinnati Reds’ Triple-A team, where he showed flashes of power. Mancini first made his mark in the MLB with the Baltimore Orioles, debuting in 2016 and earning a reputation as a powerful bat, particularly in 2019 when he hit 35 home runs.
