Ben Hunt’s contract with St George Illawarra Dragons has officially ended, marking the end of a turbulent journey. Hunt was initially signed through 2025, but the Dragons agreed to let him seek other options. Hunt had publicly expressed his desire to leave for over a year, and tensions only escalated this season, leading to the decision.

After joining the Dragons in 2018, Hunt faced personal and professional challenges, including position changes and coaching shifts. Despite his dedication, the team’s struggles continued, with Hunt’s last season ending in a disappointing second-to-last place finish. Coach Shane Flanagan’s arrival initially brought hope, but ongoing issues further strained Hunt’s relationship with the club.

Hunt now looks to return to Queensland, with potential fits including the Dolphins and Cowboys, although options like the Titans and Broncos are less viable due to roster constraints. His future destination remains uncertain, but as he closes this chapter with the Dragons, Hunt is expected to bring his experience and skill to a new team soon.
