After Prince Andrew was compelled to resign from his royal duties a number of years ago, King Charles is now reducing his brother’s income.
in a revised edition of Charles III: New King. Robert Hardman, author of New Court, writes The Keeper of the Privy Purse was directed by the King to take away his brother’s £1 million yearly personal stipend.
According to a number of rumours in recent months, Andrew is turning down a plan to move from Windsor’s Royal Lodge to a smaller Windsor estate home. The Lodge, which Andrew moved into in 2003, is leased to him. He reportedly paid £1 million to take over the property, and he has spent millions on repairs and upgrades since moving.
Hardman also goes into detail on rumours that Andrew would be responsible for paying for security surrounding the property as Charles III is cutting off financing for it. “The cost of the private security contract to guard the property, which sits outside that Windsor cordon, was running at what one insider called ‘a substantial seven-figure sum annually,'” according to the book, which is being serialised in the Daily Mail. It was widely reported in August—and uncontested—that the King was no longer willing to extend the contract past the autumn of 2024.
The contract for Andrew’s security crew ended earlier this year, as Royal Central previously revealed. His Majesty had been funding Andrew’s home security since he was no longer protected by the police in 2022.
