Former Newcastle Falcons player and current Doncaster Knights forwards coach, Darren Fearn, has shared his thoughts on facing his former club in an upcoming away match. Having spent much of his rugby career in Newcastle—first as a player for the Falcons and now as Director of Rugby at Newcastle University—Fearn is familiar with the city’s rugby culture.

Reflecting on his first season at Doncaster, Fearn said he’s enjoying the experience, praising the team’s spirit and the clear direction the club is moving in. “It’s a good group of players and staff,” he remarked, adding that progress is being made each week as they work toward their goals.

As the Knights prepare to face Newcastle this weekend, Fearn spoke warmly about his connection to the city. “Newcastle has a special place in my heart. I’ve spent many years living there, and my daughters were born there,” he said. He also expressed fond memories of his time at Newcastle Falcons, where he coached many of the players who will now be opposing him.

Looking ahead to the match, Fearn expects a tough contest at Kingston Park, acknowledging the intimidating atmosphere there. “They’ll make it a tough place to play, and we’re excited for that challenge,” he stated, noting that while Newcastle may be the favorites this time, the game promises to be an exciting northern derby.

Fearn also addressed his team’s recent narrow loss to Sale Sharks, highlighting the progress made despite an ongoing injury crisis. “Injuries have given some players unexpected opportunities, and it’s great to see them improving,” he said. After a promising performance against Sale, Fearn is optimistic about building on that momentum as they prepare for Sunday’s match.

The Doncaster Knights will face Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park at 3pm on Sunday, November 10th. Fans can follow live updates on social media.
