Rangers manager Philippe Clement has not had to deal with any injury concerns as the team gets ready to host Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.
Problems in the club’s medical department have plagued Philippe Clement and his staff ever since the former manager of AS Monaco and Club Brugge entered the building at Ibrox.
I didn’t mean to pun.
Rangers are still without skilled wide players Rabbi Matondo and Oscar Cortes after Danilo’s comeback was offset by a new injury to Tom Lawrence.
However, a Rangers star who was benched for the midweek trip to Greece may be in line to make his first appearance since August when the Jambos visit town.
Ridvan Yilmaz lines up Rangers return v Hearts
Every time Ridvan Yilmaz has started for Rangers, it seems like the Turkish international has been sidelined by injury.
The 23-year-old may have cost the Gers almost £5 million when he moved from Besiktas to Rangers.
However, Rangers haven’t gotten the most out of their investment thus far because Ridvan Yilmaz keeps getting injured, which has curtailed his Ibrox career thus far.
The left-back has missed the majority of the season due to this most recent injury, which was received when taking a shot in the Champions League qualification loss to Dynamo Kyiv at Hampden in August.
Ridvan Yilmaz, who was stretchered off during that agonising 2-0 loss, has been watching from the sidelines as the outstanding Jefte has taken over the left-back position.
However, Rangers will be pleased to have Ridvan Yilmaz back in their matchday squad as the 20-year-old Brazilian left-back’s impact begins to diminish.
In midweek’s 1-1 Europa League match with Olympiakos, Ridvan did not come off the bench; however, the left-back may make a comeback against Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers must be ‘realistic’ with injury problems
Prior to the Europa League match against Olympiacos, Philippe Clement was questioned about the club’s state as several Rangers players dealt with injury issues.
The last three players are back in and around the first-team squad practicing, with Tom Lawrence joining Oscar Cortes, Rabbi Matondo, Ridvan Yilmaz, and Danilo on the sidelines.
Ridvan Yilmaz is expected to play in the match against Hearts, while Danilo returned to the squad in the Premier Sports Cup triumph over Motherwell.
Nicolas Raskin has recovered well from a string of injury problems, and Rabbi Matondo may even return to the matchday squad at Ibrox.
Clement says that compared to previous season, when Rangers had up to 12 players out at once, the current position is a significant improvement.
Clement stated, “We have to be realistic about (injuries).” “I don’t believe there is a single team in the entire globe that is injury-free.
Yes, there are times when that is a utopia, but during the previous season, we had numerous instances where 12 guys were out. This season, that has never happened.
“There have been changes made to the workforce and the manner that many things are done, and we are beginning to see the advantages of that as well.
John Souttar, for instance, has never played as many minutes in his career as he is currently. Never.
He had always been hurt in those situations before, or had already been hurt.
There are further instances in the same vein. Thus, positive measures have been taken.
“Yes, I’m glad to see certain players return, but we still need to take steps to strengthen the club overall.
“We’re glad to have a few of those back because Nico (Raskin) missed a lot of games last season as well.
Rabbi (Matondo) begins training with the squad back, and Ridvan Yilmaz is now training with them as well.
Because it puts a lot of strain on the bodies to perform at their best every three days, we will improve with every three-day game the more players we bring back we will need all of them.”
