While the Everton takeover process is ongoing, the Friedkin Group is looking for a new manager for AS Roma.
Dan Friedkin, a potential Everton owner, is said to have flown into London, although he will not be focussing on the present takeover.
In September, the American billionaire agreed to purchase the Toffees from majority owner Farhad Moshiri through his business, The Friedkin Group (TFG). It is anticipated that the agreement will be ratified by the end of the year, although it is still pending regulatory approval.
However, as the acquisition process goes on, TFG has encountered a crisis at AS Roma. Having acquired the Italian team in August 2020 and won the Europa Conference League two years later, there is turmoil in the Eternal City. TFG is currently searching for their fourth head coach this season. They fired Jose Mourinho last January and replaced him with club legend Daniele De Rossi, but De Rossi was unexpectedly fired four games into this season, which infuriated fans and caused chief executive Lina Souloukou to depart.
The arduous task of replacing De Rossi fell to Ivan Juric, but the former Torino manager did not impress his critics. He won only four of his 12 games as manager and was fired following a 3-2 loss to Bologna at the Stadio Olimpico last Sunday.
Now, the hunt is on for Roma’s newest incumbent. Friedkin is ‘doing all the activities necessary to hire the new coach’ from London, according to the Italian tabloid Il Messagger. In Soho, TFG has a base. Before coming to England, Friedkin is said to have visited both his house in Rome and Ladispoli on the Italian shore.
The Giallorossi job has been associated with several names. Among them is former Everton manager Frank Lampard, who is apparently vying for the open Coventry City position. Max Allegri, who left Juventus in the summer, former Chelsea manager Graham Potter, and former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini have also been brought up.
Erik ten Hag, however, is a fresh contender who has apparently been contacted. After two and a half years in charge at Old Trafford, the Dutchman was fired by Manchester United just last month.
