Tottenham Hotspur has been considering a transfer for Angel Gomes, a midfielder for Lille and an England international.
In order to give Ange Postecoglou more choices, the North Londoners have been trying to deepen the area in the centre of White Hart Lane Park. During the last two transfer windows, Conor Gallagher has served as the benchmark for the Australian head coach, who has been searching for a player who can play both an attacking midfielder and an eight role. According to GMS, the Lilywhites may now try to sign his England teammate Angel Gomes, who has been the focus of much conjecture since his contract with the French powerhouses expires at the end of a current campaign.
Spurs eye January move for Gomes
While acknowledging that the 24-year-old star would immediately be worth £15 million if he moves to White Hart Lane, John Wenham, the proprietor of the respected Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, is adamant that Tottenham could agree on a pre-contract with him in January.
Wenham stated in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News:
Given that he graduated from Manchester United’s academy, Gomes would be considered a homegrown player.
“Next summer, he would be available on a free transfer. Tottenham may thus reach a pre-contract agreement with him in January.
“He would immediately be worth £15 million if we signed him for free and agreed to a five-year contract with him, just based on the value attached to that contract.”
Gomes was called up to the England squad because of his impressive performances after joining the French League. His development has drawn attention as Spurs and other elite English clubs try to increase their interest in signing him.
The North Londoners’ ability to reach an agreement to bring the 24-year-old to White Hart Lane remains to be seen, though.
