Newcastle United may soon be able to afford a midfield player to bolster Eddie Howe’s choices at the core of his team in 2025, maybe inflicting a frustrating blow to a major European club.
Newcastle transfer news
Newcastle’s recent appearance in the transfer headlines is not surprising. Since Paul Mitchell and his recruitment staff were unable to close certain agreements during the summer transfer window, their club has been in dire need of reinforcements for the past year or so.
For instance, instead of giving Howe a much-needed central defender, players like Marc Guehi closed the transfer window at Crystal Palace, and Newcastle has been paying the price ever since.
From Bryan Mbeumo to Victor Osimhen in two trades that would surely elevate those at St. James’ Park a level or two, the speculations have been flowing thick and fast ever since. Given his reputation and prior connections to Chelsea before being forced to settle for what has been a successful loan stint away from Napoli at Galatasaray, Osimhen would be an especially noteworthy arrival.
But according to reports, the Magpies are considering more than just attacking additions. Newcastle has been scouting Kenneth Taylor all season, according to Caught Offside. Even though Ajax is eager to keep their midfield player, Newcastle would probably force the Dutch powerhouses to give him if they offered a cost of €35 million (£29 million) in 2025.
Arsenal is also apparently keeping an eye on the 22-year-old in anticipation of possible improvements of their own next season, so Newcastle isn’t the only team intrigued. Mitchell would be making a big statement if he were to sign Taylor and finalise Newcastle’s midfield in a matchup with a Premier League opponent.
Ajax has established a reputation for turning out some of the top players in the world, many of whom go on to play in the Premier League. Taylor could do the same now.
“Superb” Taylor could partner Guimaraes
Even if Guimaraes’ long-term Newcastle future would be in doubt if they don’t make it to the European Championship, Taylor’s arrival would swiftly establish a partnership that could help the Magpies turn things around.

The Ajax standout might prove that Football Talent Scout’s Jacek Kulig was correct when he called the midfielder “another superb product” of the Ajax program, joining Sandro Tonali and Newcastle’s fan favourite Brazilian combo. But unlike last summer, Newcastle will have to spend a lot of money to entice Taylor to quit the Dutch powerhouses. Taylor will only give in if their demands are granted, giving Howe four top-notch midfield choices.
Newcastle should consider holding onto Guimaraes their top priority before bringing in players of Taylor’s calibre to surround the Brazilian once more in the summer.
