In an official statement, Adam Driussi, Chairman of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, confirmed the club’s decision to part ways with star player Josh Addo-Carr. The termination of Addo-Carr’s contract follows a failed roadside drug test earlier in the season, resulting in a suspension and a $15,000 fine by the NRL Integrity Unit.
Reflecting on the difficult decision, Driussi, who assumed the role of Bulldogs chairman in February 2024, spoke of the values and standards upheld by the club. “Josh Addo-Carr has proven his abilities both on and off the field,” he stated. “However, there are certain mistakes that are not acceptable in this club. To maintain our club’s culture, we came to an agreement to part ways.”
Driussi emphasized that Addo-Carr’s departure aligns with the Bulldogs’ commitment to fostering a transparent and respectful environment, a stance he feels is crucial for long-term success. Known for his strong business background as the co-founder and CEO of data analytics company Quantium, Driussi also brings a lifelong passion for the Bulldogs and is actively involved in their Business Partnerships Committee, supporting corporate alliances and club development.
For Addo-Carr, the decision has been a moment of personal reckoning. He expressed genuine remorse in a heartfelt message to fans, stating, “I feel remorseful. I let you all down. You’ll always remain in my heart; the love from the fans will stay with me.” Known for his speed, playmaking, and fan-favorite status, Addo-Carr’s connection to the Bulldogs’ community remains strong, despite the setback.
The decision to release Addo-Carr frees up nearly $500,000 in the club’s salary cap, opening doors for potential new recruits as the Bulldogs prepare for the upcoming season. For Driussi and the Bulldogs’ leadership, this move is about upholding a clear, values-based direction for the club’s future.
As Addo-Carr looks toward potential new opportunities within the NRL, his focus now turns to rebuilding his career and making amends with those who have supported him through his time at the Bulldogs.
