The Geelong Football Club has officially announced that Patrick Dangerfield and Tom Stewart will continue as the team’s captain and vice-captain, respectively, for the 2025 AFL season. This marks the third consecutive year of Dangerfield’s captaincy and the fourth for Stewart in his vice-captaincy role.

Dangerfield and Stewart’s leadership journey began in tandem following Geelong’s historic 2022 Premiership, with Dangerfield succeeding Joel Selwood as captain. Stewart, a natural leader, was elevated to the vice-captaincy alongside Dangerfield that same year.

Geelong’s Executive General Manager of Football, Andrew Mackie, praised the duo’s influence on and off the field:

> “We are grateful to have strong and influential leaders in Pat and Tom, people who will continue to lead our football program and club into 2025. They are not only influential leaders on the field, but they are key drivers of high performance and Geelong’s contribution to the community. Our entire playing group, football program, and broader staff are fully behind them as they lead our AFL team in 2025.”

Dangerfield, an eight-time All-Australian and 2016 Brownlow Medallist, has become a cornerstone of Geelong’s success since joining the club in 2016. Having played 337 games—183 of which were for the Cats—his contributions are unparalleled. Dangerfield’s tenure as captain has been marked by resilience, strategic acumen, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Since debuting in 2017, Stewart has established himself as one of the AFL’s premier defenders. A five-time All-Australian and two-time Carji Greeves Medal winner, Stewart averaged 21.5 disposals, 6.1 marks, 7.3 intercepts, and 5.5 rebounds per game in 2024. These statistics underscore his value as both a player and a leader.

With Dangerfield and Stewart leading the charge, the Geelong Cats aim to build on their legacy of success and inspire the next generation of players. Both leaders embody the club’s values of determination, community involvement, and a relentless pursuit of greatness.

As the AFL preseason intensifies, Geelong supporters can look forward to another year of strong leadership and high expectations under this dynamic duo.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Cats prepare to tackle the 2025 AFL season with renewed vigor.
