The Geelong Cats have made a statement of intent ahead of the 2025 VFL season, securing the services of talented midfielder Jay Rantall. The former Collingwood player is set to don the famous blue-and-white hoops, adding a mix of experience and athleticism to an already formidable VFL lineup.

Rantall, originally drafted at pick 40 in the 2019 AFL National Draft from the GWV Rebels, made his AFL debut in 2021 for Collingwood. Despite limited opportunities at the elite level, where he played five games during the 2021 season, Rantall has carved out a reputation as a consistent performer in the SANFL and VFL. Most recently, he showcased his skills with Werribee during the 2024 VFL season.

This signing is the latest coup for the Cats’ VFL program, following the recent addition of versatile former AFL player Nathan Kreuger. Together, the pair brings a wealth of experience and on-field versatility, further enhancing Geelong’s midfield depth and attacking potential as they aim to build on their stellar 2024 campaign, which saw them secure a coveted top-four finish.

Geelong VFL Coach Mark Corrigan, who masterminded the Cats’ return to finals action for the first time since 2019, expressed his excitement about Rantall’s arrival.

“Jay Rantall brings valuable AFL experience and elite running ability,” Corrigan said. “He’s a precise ball user and will seamlessly complement our inside midfielders. Adding a mature, composed player like Jay strengthens our team as we push for even greater success next year.”

With Rantall’s proven track record and hunger for success, Geelong’s VFL side is shaping up as a genuine contender in 2025. Fans can expect the former Magpie to deliver dynamic performances, as he and Kreuger lead the charge for another thrilling campaign.

Stay tuned as the Cats continue to make moves in their quest for VFL glory!
