Thiago Asmar claims that Everton is in advanced negotiations to sign Flamengo full-back Wesley.

Olho No Lance presenter and Rubro News TV journalist-turned-founder Julio Miguel Neto interpreted what the Pilhado Esportes journalist posted on YouTube on January 3rd to his 54k followers on X, stating that the Toffees are anticipated to bid between £16.5 million and £24.8 million.
After The Friedkin Group’s takeover was finalized, the Toffees are reportedly eager to add a full-back this month. The 21-year-old plays as a right-back.

“Everton is yet another English club expressing interest in signing full-back Wesley,” Neto posted on X.

Journalist Thiago Asmar claims that a source close to the athlete disclosed that talks are progressing and are merely awaiting Flamengo’s board’s decision. The new offer need to be in the range of 20 to 30 million euros.

Furthermore, although its identity has not yet been disclosed, a fourth European club is also in the running.

Everton are taking a huge gamble with Wesley

The Toffees need a right-back, but it would be extremely risky to recruit a 21-year-old with no experience outside of Brazil.

Given how little is known about him among European club supporters, the amount that has been mentioned is undoubtedly mouthwatering.

His little over three years of experience in Brazil’s first division, where he made his debut in 2021, could not be sufficient to demonstrate his suitability for the Premier League.

Even though his ceiling might be high, the Toffees would be better suited signing someone who can boost their starting lineup right now if they had that much money to invest.

Ashley Young has been the preferred right-back, but he will soon reach 40 and is no longer dependable as the first pick.

Whether the Toffees really make an offer for the Brazilian full-back is still up in the air.
