Following a recent update regarding The Friedkin Group’s plans, Kevin Thelwell, the sporting director at Everton, may need to pack his bags.
The Esk expressed concern at reports that the 51-year-old is staying at Goodison Park following the takeover, raising questions about his future there (December 31).
After Josimar writer Paul Brown revealed on January 7 that Dan Friedkin has contemplated a double swoop for Dan Ashworth and Graham Potter, that position may become more apparent in the days ahead.
If the new owners were successful in that bold attempt, the club’s fortunes might be drastically altered.
Everton should go for Ashworth
There comes a time to move on, but Thelwell and Sean Dyche had done an excellent job leading the Toffees through a difficult period with financial constraints and points deductions.
Despite PSR problems, the director has been able to retain players like Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin; however, his hiring practices have been somewhat subpar, which is impeding advancement.
However, the Blues must make every effort to get Ashworth to Goodison Park because the potential opportunity to hire him is too fantastic to pass up.
He recently departed Manchester United under a cloud but his time with Brighton and Newcastle should offer the Friedkin’s with enough evidence of his talent.
Whether the Toffees can persuade Potter to join them rather than West Ham could determine their ability to entice the 53-year-old to the Blue side of Merseyside.
It would be a huge coup for the new Goodison Park ownership and a fantastic beginning to the new era if they could sign both men.
