According to Alan Nixon, Everton is expected to add Alan Irvine and Billy McKinlay in an effort to bolster the Goodison Park backroom crew. Despite interest from rival clubs, the Sun journalist stated in his Patreon [12 January] that McKinlay would “jump” at the chance to work with newly appointed David Moyes again after working with him at West Ham.

With a significant task ahead of him to turn around the Toffees’ fortunes, Moyes reportedly wants Everton to hire employees with whom he has previously worked to facilitate his integration.

Everton set for backroom staff overhaul

Although Moyes’ hiring was a positive beginning for the Toffees, the backroom staff may be just as important in the team’s efforts to turn around a poor run of seasons. One of the main reasons for the regression was undoubtedly Sean Dyche’s poor managerial skills, but Moyes’s hiring won’t be sufficient to stop it; the backroom crew must mesh, and TFG must fulfill their commitments if the Scotsman is to thrive on Merseyside once more.

If Moyes is able to bring in his desired staff, there can be little room for excuses and the very fact that he has worked with them before should provide a sense of optimism for their chances of improving results and performances.

The rebuild of Everton will very much be a team effort and if it is to be successful, TFG have to give Moyes what he wants.
