David Moyes acknowledged that Everton’s financial problems have “played their part on the pitch” following Aston Villa’s destruction of his Goodison Park comeback. The former Toffees manager has rejoined the team for a second term, taking Sean Dyche’s place as the Merseyside team attempts to avoid relegation. When Moyes first departed the team in 2013 to assume a position at Manchester United, Everton was frequently having trouble.
Villa won 1-0 at Goodison Park, and Moyes received a sobering reminder of the challenges awaiting him after he returns to management.
“Over the years, it’s clear that the financial situation has affected the field, and that’s the result,” he told the BBC. That’s what all the supporters know. Everton’s last opportunity to strengthen their roster is in January, and Moyes is eager to take advantage of it. “If we can add some of that quality and give the players a little lift as well, I think it’s really important,” he continued. Although the audience was fantastic, I could see they were thinking, “We need to see something else because we’ve seen a lot of this before.”
With Moyes acknowledging that Armando Broja’s loan period may be cut short, Everton’s desire to recruit, particularly in offensive areas, may grow. The Chelsea player may now return to west London after suffering a major injury.
Ernest Nuamah, a winger for Lyon, is supposedly being pursued by Everton. Nuamah was close to joining the Toffees in the summer, but the transfer fell through as time ran out, but talks are still going on. “There was very little in the game, they had a couple of chances which we were fortunate with,” Moyes said of Everton’s defeat to Villa, which leaves them without a victory in six games. We needed to have more possession and more control of the game. We had six or seven corners and a decent chance at the end, but we didn’t deliver at the set pieces. Just a small lapse in play gave them the opportunity to score in a very close game.
