Last week, there were strong signs that Torino’s pursuit of Everton forward Beto was getting increasingly tough.
This was due to a significant valuation discrepancy between the two clubs, which forced the Italian club to consider other potential targets.
Everton’s pursuit of a new striker on Monday gave the Italian media hope that Torino’s Beto’s chances had improved.
TuttoSport has speculated on a potential twist late in the market.
Torino has not offered more than €14-15 million for the striker, while Everton is still asking for €20 million. The injury situation at Goodison Park is forcing them to reconsider, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja out of action.
Due to this, David Moyes’ side need a new striker and are looking at the likes of Ajax’s Brian Brobbey and Rangers’ Hamza Igamane. If they do land a striker, Roma could emerge as a concrete option for Beto late in the January transfer window. Roma want a centre-forward this month and Udinese’s Lorenzo Lucca is also an option, but a move for Beto could be helped by the common Friedkin ownership.
There’s a chance Roma’s return is intended to put pressure on Torino, with an intermediary attempting to persuade the Turin club to increase their offer.
Alternatively, Everton signing a new striker and Roma paying what they want for Beto could be a good way for the Friedkins to close the window.
