With more than half of the season remaining, Tottenham is only eight points above the relegation zone. Ange Postecoglou, the manager, is at his lowest point since joining from Celtic, and the sample size is huge. Rather than firing Postecoglou, the club is focusing on how to support their manager in the market since they realize the severe injury problem that has devastated his team.
Jacobs’ claims were echoed in a later update from The Telegraph, which also claimed that one of the reasons Postecoglou isn’t expected to lose his job anytime soon is because a decision like that would be “hugely embarrassing” for the club and chairman Daniel Levy. The report said: “the prospect of having to finish a third season with Ryan Mason in caretaker charge would be hugely embarrassing and provoke more criticism towards Levy.” In light of this, The Telegraph said Postecoglou will be “backed” in the final week of the transfer window, and an outfield player is anticipated to arrive before the February 3 deadline. Additionally, Spurs have “held talks” over two other signings, though they might not arrive until the summer.
Tottenham want three signings
Spurs have reportedly held conversations with two players in an effort to tie up deals for the summer window: Southampton winger Tyler Dibling and Lille midfielder Angel Gomes. They are also attempting to recruit at least one new outfield player this month. Non-French clubs are free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with Gomes, 24, as he has reached the final six months of his contract, which expires at the end of the current season.
