Giulia Bould claims that David Moyes will verify on Friday whether Everton has canceled Orel Magala’s loan agreement. After sustaining an ACL injury late in the team’s victory over Brighton over the weekend, Mangala, 26, will not be able to play for the remainder of the season.
The 23-times Belgium international has been a key player for the Blues this season, playing in every single match he’s been available for since securing his season-long loan move from Lyon on deadline day in August. However, as he’s on loan, he’s taking up a vital loan spot in Moyes’ squad and terminating that agreement in light of his injury will free up space to do business in the final days of the winter transfer window. When asked if Mangala’s deal has been cut short early, BBC Merseyside Sport journalist Bould said: “We will find out tomorrow (Friday) at the presser.”
Everton fans to discover Mangala fate in in Moyes press conference
It makes a lot of sense for Mangala’s deal to be terminated.
Sending him back to Lyon earlier than expected may require Everton to pay a charge, but if that is the case, the expense will probably be negligible and well worth it.
The Toffees are desperate to bolster Moyes’ team before the winter transfer window closes at 11 p.m. on Monday, February 3, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin is now sidelined as well.
Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has previously reported that Broja will stay at Goodison Park to recover from his injury while Leeds are unlikely to want to recall Harrison. That means that Everton could be locked into keeping those two on loan – unless they decide to turn their temporary contracts on Merseyside into permanent ones.
As a result, Kevin Thelwell will have to replace Mangala with another overseas loan if the Belgian’s deal is cut short.
It’s really not ideal for Everton when they’re already struggling to bring people in due to PSR restrictions and the inflated prices of the winter transfer market.
