Radio Derby reports that Derby County is close to appointing Blackburn Rovers boss as Paul Warne’s successor, with Blackburn reluctantly granting permission for the 45-year-old to discuss the role with their Championship rivals.

Following Derby’s 0-0 draw against Oxford United on Tuesday night, interim boss Matt Hamshaw refrained from commenting specifically on John Eustace but emphasized the need for a swift resolution.

“It’s the usual cycle at football clubs,” Hamshaw told BBC Radio Derby. “There are always rumors, debates, and obstacles some want a manager out, some want one in. That’s just football.

“Hopefully, a new manager will be in place for Friday’s game against QPR. If so, great. If not, I’ll give everything to secure three points.”

The goalless draw lifted Derby out of the bottom three on goal difference, but they could slip back into the relegation zone after Wednesday’s fixtures, with Hull City and Luton Town in action.

Reflecting on the performance, Hamshaw admitted feeling disappointed and frustrated, echoing the fans’ sentiments. “We were a bit passive, played at a slow tempo, and didn’t take enough risks,” he said.

However, he acknowledged the positives, saying, “I don’t want to be too negative we earned a point and a clean sheet but I expect much more. My standards for the group are very high.

“It doesn’t feel like a great point right now, but when I see the league table tomorrow, it might seem better.”
