When Everton plays Crystal Palace, David Moyes is expected to bring up several young players to the team.
With Wednesday’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool putting them 10 points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, the Toffees have improved significantly since Moyes took over as manager, but injuries might undo the progress being made.
Injuries mount
After sustaining damage to his medial ligament during the match against Liverpool, Iliman Ndiaye has been admitted to the treatment room. With eight goals in 26 appearances since arriving from Marseille, the forward has been outstanding, but he will be out for at least a few weeks. He is one of five strikers who will not play in today’s (5.30 p.m. GMT) trip to Palace at Selhurst Park.
The versatile Dwight McNeil underwent knee surgery earlier this month, and strikers Youssef Chermiti (thigh), Armando Broja (ankle), and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (hamstring) are also out. This season, Abdoulaye Doucoure has mostly played as a No. 10, however he is sidelined after receiving a second yellow card during the Liverpool match. He is banned for one game.
Additionally, captain Seamus Coleman is still dealing with a calf issue, Nathan Patterson is a serious doubt due to a hamstring injury, and Orel Mangala will not play this season due to an ACL rupture.
Moyes just has 13 senior outfield players at his disposal, and there aren’t many options. In order to cover No. 1 Jordan Pickford versus Palace, backup goalkeepers Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic will also start on the bench. As a result, four berths are still available.
