The Everton manager reacts after the Premier League clash at Palace
Everton’s fourth victory in five games put them on the verge of safety, but David Moyes underlined that caution was still necessary.
With a spirited victory at Crystal Palace, the Blues moved into the middle of the league. A diminished team, severely damaged by Abdoulaye Doucoure’s suspension and injuries to important players, put up a valiant show at Selhurst Park to win 2-1.
Beto and Charly Alcaraz’s goals in the victory put Everton 13 points above the relegation zone and ahead of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Moyes acknowledged that things were getting better, but he is still keen to keep his players from getting ahead of themselves considering the size of his injury list and the time it would probably take for key players to return.
Following the game, he emphasized the need to maintain the tenacity and resolve that have defined the first few weeks of his second spell at Goodison Park.
“Look,” he replied, “there is still a great deal of caution. However, I want to begin to think that we can improve right now. More progress is what I want and need to do.
“I also hope that the players continue to get better. When we can, I want us to play better.
“But I don’t want us to lose their good habits, which include being tough, resilient, and committed—all of which you have to make sure you do well when you’re not quite that good.”
