Wakefield Trinity coach Daryl Powell has delivered the unfortunate news that hooker Liam Hood will be out of action due to an ankle injury, expected to be sidelined for a couple of weeks. The setback occurred during Saturday’s notable win against Leeds Rhinos.

Although Trinity showcased strength in their Super League display, securing their triumph at Headingley with two tries from Max Jowitt and another from Mason Lino, they had to absorb the cost of Hood’s injury. Reflecting on the match, Powell shared: “He’s done his syndesmosis so he’s going to be out for a few weeks. That’s going to be a rattler. He’s a big part of what we do and he’s a class player.”

Additionally, Powell confirmed another blow to the squad with prop Ky Rodwell tearing his hamstring earlier in the week. “Ky did his hamstring early in the week,” he elaborated.

He’s a Grade II so it’s six weeks, maybe even more, which is very disappointing. But it happens.”

Describing how the team had to adapt, he continued, “He did it on Tuesday and we looked rattled in that session, we were terrible. But on Thursday and Friday we were sharp. We knew Ky wouldn’t play so we had to come up with a different pack. I thought we did a good job with it.”

Trinity’s roster faces further challenges with players Cam Scott also grappling with a hamstring problem, while teammates Seth Nikotemo and Josh Griffin remain out of commission for a short while longer. Up next for Wakefield is a clash with Hull KR this Thursday.
