A rugby league coach is under investigation following an alleged assault The alleged incident is understood to have taken place in Las Vegas on Sunday
The NRL are reportedly investigating an alleged assault between a New Zealand Warriors coach and a reporter that reportedly took place in the press box of the Allegiant Stadium on Sunday.
The Warriors got their 2025 NRL season off to a poor start on Sunday in Las Vegas after they were beaten 30-8 by the Canberra Raiders.
But according to The Daily Telegraph that a British journalist has claimed to be ‘grabbed by the throat’ and verbally abused by Warriors assistant coach Richard Agar.
According to reports, the alleged incident occurred as Warriors staff walked through the press box towards the changing rooms during half-time. The reporter, who works for The Guardian, has requested anonymity and a witness has confirmed the story. The NRL is also reviewing CCTV footage of the incident.
According to journalist Phil Rothfield, the claimed incident may have stemmed from a previous quarrel between the two in 2022 over an article that the journalist made about Agar during his time with Leeds in the Super League.
Agar, 53, who is also from the UK, has been working as an assistant to Andrew Webster since 2023, after leaving his position with Leeds the previous year.
Cameron George, the club’s CEO, is said to be aware of the alleged event.
‘I’ll communicate with Richard and the NRL to find out exactly what happened, and we’ll go from there,’ George told News Corp.
Daily Mail Australia has contacted the Warriors for comment.
