When the Tennessee Titans acquired the first pick, they had a variety of possibilities. Fortunately, head coach Brian Callahan remembered when he saw Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

Callahan was as Burrow’s offensive coordinator in Cincinnati until this past season. Callahan’s first stint with the Titans did not go quite as expected.

Will Levis, the quarterback, was not impressing him. He frequently held him accountable and pointed out some unacceptable plays.

In any case, Tennessee’s head coach knows exactly what to look for in an excellent quarterback.

He detailed to SI’s Albert Breer how he knew his former QB would be outstanding.

“You could just tell this guy is wired to be a killer,” Callahan says, all these years later. “There was something about the way he carried himself, how he spoke, and what he said. In person, there’s something about him that you can’t quite put your finger on, even if you’ve met him before.

Titans need a Joe Burrow-esque player with the No. 1 pick

It’s evident that the Titans need a franchise quarterback. Levis is no longer the go-to guy after failing to get selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, someone like Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders is.

Meanwhile, there have been suggestions that the Titans may trade their No. 1 pick. If Callahan is looking for a quarterback, he might consider Quinn Ewers or possibly Jaxson Dart as a better option.

Burrow, on the other hand, earned the Heisman Trophy and was the first overall choice in the 2020 NFL Draft. That made things much easy for the current Titans head coach.

There is no clear No. 1 in this class, therefore due diligence is essential. Nonetheless, Callahan’s sight must serve him well if Tennessee is to emerge from the dirt and into the spotlight.
