Tottenham are once again concerned about Dominic Solanke’s fitness after the striker looked to sustain another injury in the Europa League defeat to AZ Alkmaar.

The striker returned after seven weeks out with a knee injury sustained in training, going on with about 20 minutes remaining as Spurs pressed for an equaliser.

With the game entering injury time, Solanke jumped to grab a cross, collided with Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro in mid-air, and tumbled to the ground on his left side.

Solanke immediately seemed in discomfort, gripping his side and unable to continue. He was shortly replaced by Dane Scarlett, who assisted from the field and along the touchline.

It might be another massive injury blow for Spurs, whose chronic injury crisis is now beginning to lighten. Spurs now face an uphill battle to reach the Europa League quarter-finals after losing 1-0 in the first leg of the last-16 on Thursday.

After the game, manager Ange Postecoglou said: “We believe it’s a knock, so hopefully nothing too serious. He’s a little sore.

Spurs’ season hinges on their Europa League campaign, having been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions, while their Premier League form has kept them in the bottom half for months.
