The Indianapolis Colts have made several key moves by signing unrestricted free agent quarterback Daniel Jones, cornerback Charvarius Ward, and kicker Spencer Shrader.
Spencer Shrader, a 6-foot-2, 201-pound kicker, had a brief stint with multiple NFL teams during his rookie season in 2024. He played for the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, and Indianapolis Colts, appearing in a total of four games. In those appearances, Shrader was perfect in his kicking duties, successfully making all five of his field goal attempts and all nine of his extra point attempts, totaling 24 points. Initially, Shrader signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 9, 2024. His last name is pronounced Sh-RAID-err.
Before entering the NFL, Shrader had an accomplished college career. He played 57 games across two teams, spending time at Notre Dame in 2023 and the University of South Florida (USF) from 2019 to 2022. Over the course of his college career, Shrader made 43 of 63 field goals and 156 of 158 extra point attempts, accumulating a total of 285 points. In his final season at Notre Dame, Shrader appeared in all 13 games, converting 15 of 22 field goals and 61 of 62 extra points, amassing 106 points. He also earned recognition for his kicking ability, being named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award in 2021, which honors the nation’s top kicker.
With these signings, the Colts are bolstering their roster across multiple positions, adding experienced players who can contribute immediately. Jones and Ward will add depth to the team’s defense and offense, while Shrader brings proven accuracy and consistency as a kicker.
