Melbourne Demons coach Simon Goodwin has expressed his optimism about the team’s future, despite a narrow three-point loss to Greater Western Sydney (GWS) in Round 1. The Demons fielded six debutants, including five players making their AFL debut, and Goodwin was impressed with their performance.

“We’ve got no limitations on our young players; if they’re ready to play, we’ll play them,” Goodwin said. “They fit the team really well.”

The Demons’ young recruits, including Langford and Lindsay, demonstrated their talent and potential, with Goodwin praising their pre-season efforts and trial match performances. Mature-aged recruits Aidan Johnson and Jack Henderson also made a solid impact, contributing a goal each on debut.

Goodwin’s commitment to youth development is a positive sign for the Demons, who are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2024 season. With a promising start to the season, Melbourne will aim to secure their first win in Round 2 against North Melbourne.

The Demons’ focus on youth development and Goodwin’s willingness to give young players a chance will be crucial in shaping the team’s future. As the season progresses, Melbourne fans can expect to see more exciting performances from their young talent.
