Hull FC head coach John Cartwright spoke to the media ahead of the team’s Super League match against Castleford Tigers. Here are his thoughts on team expectations, Jordan Rapana’s role, and the upcoming test against Castleford.

However, the team has been dealt a blow with the news that Zak Hardaker will miss Thursday’s game due to a calf injury. Hardaker picked up the injury in Friday’s win at Wakefield and will not be risked this week.

On a positive note, young back Davy Litten has been included in the 21-man squad for the first time this year. Litten has completed a six-month rehab process after knee surgery and is closing in on his return.

Jed Cartwright has also been ruled out with a hamstring injury, but Will Kirby comes into the squad. Cade Cust is named and will be given every chance to prove his fitness after taking a bang to the hip last week.

The likes of Jordan Rapana, Aidan Sezer, and John Asiata are all named, with recently acquired prop trio Sam Eseh, Liam Knight, and Liam Watts all included.

ON TEAM EXPECTATIONS

Cartwright stated that he didn’t have any specific expectations at the start of the season, given the team’s new dynamics and the challenges of the previous year. He emphasized the importance of getting through the pre-season, assessing the team’s strengths, and competing at a high level.

*ON JORDAN RAPANA’S ROLE*

Cartwright praised Rapana’s versatility, stating that he can play in various positions without any issues. He noted that Rapana’s role in the halves requires more responsibility, but he still wants him to play freely and take advantage of situations.

ON THE CASTLEFORD TEST

Cartwright acknowledged that the match against Castleford will be a tough challenge, especially given the team’s away record. He emphasized the importance of being prepared for Castleford’s tactics and maintaining a high level of intensity throughout the game.

ON THE TEAM’S PROGRESS

Cartwright expressed his satisfaction with the team’s progress, highlighting their ability to compete and win games. He noted that the team has become a close-knit unit, and their relationships are crucial to their success.

The match between Hull FC and Castleford Tigers is scheduled to take place on Thursday.
