In their first-round playoff series against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat are currently behind. The Heat are currently in must-win mode after dropping their first two games in Cleveland to a 2-0 deficit. Tyler Herro is the key to the Heat’s hopes of making a spectacular comeback in this series. Herro is shooting 50.0% from the field and 41.2% from outside the arc while averaging 27.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 0.5 steals per game against the Cavaliers.
Herro has been excellent offensively, but he hasn’t been able to compete on defense in this series. Following Game 2, Cavaliers guard Darius Garland made some intriguing remarks about his difficulties on that end of the court. The Cavaliers’ strategy, according to Garland, has been to target Herro and other ineffective Heat defenders. That kind of remark was never going to be warmly received. Herro was questioned on Garland’s remarks during Friday’s Heat practice. The Cavaliers guard’s remarks don’t particularly worry him, but he wasn’t very like of hearing it aloud.
“There was some back and forth between me and Darius on the court,’ Herro said, via Zachary Weinberger. “To go to the media to talk about game plans against a guy kind of says a lot about him. I’m not worried about Darius Garland. I’m worried about winning the playoff game, and that’s what we came back to Miami to do, to win two at home.” Herro was then asked if he felt it was an inappropriate comment for one NBA player to make about another, which elicited a rather ruthless response. “It’s cool, at the end of the day, it’s competitive,” Herro stated. “But somebody who doesn’t play defense shouldn’t be talking either. He don’t play any defense. We’ll see that tomorrow
Herro also added that he doesn’t need any motivation from Garland and is raring to go. Game 3 will be at the Kaseya Center on Saturday at 1
p.m. ET.
