Huddersfield Town’s interim head coach, Jon Worthington, expressed frustration after his side’s fifth consecutive defeat, acknowledging that failing to take chances has been a recurring issue throughout the season. The Terriers lost 3-1 to Exeter City, despite taking an early 1-0 lead through Josh Koroma. Exeter quickly equalized, and the game saw more setbacks for Huddersfield, including a disallowed goal for Herbie Kane and a goal conceded shortly after the restart.

Town’s recent struggles have left them in tenth place in the League One standings, with just 64 points from 45 matches. They are set to face Leyton Orient on the final day of the season, who are currently in sixth place and fighting for the final play-off spot. Worthington admitted that Town’s poor scoring record, with fewer goals than any other team in the top half, has contributed to their downfall, along with their struggles in defending their own box.

Reflecting on the team’s performance against Exeter, Worthington highlighted some positive moments in the first half, but also noted the critical moments that led to their defeat, such as the disallowed goal. He pointed out the lack of luck and momentum, which has been a constant theme throughout their poor run of form.

Huddersfield has won only one of their last eight matches and has lost 14 of their past 20. Despite this, the team was supported by over 700 fans who made the long journey to Exeter, something Worthington was appreciative of. He expressed disappointment in letting the fans down and emphasized the need for the team to give their best in the final match against Leyton Orient.

As the season winds down, Huddersfield’s inability to capitalize on opportunities and defend effectively has seen them falter. Worthington hopes the players can repay the loyal supporters with a stronger performance in their final fixture of the campaign.
